​Here are frequently asked questions and their answers.

When should I perform a Magnetic Calibration?

When using magnetic correction on (default), perform magnetic calibration to adapt to your environment. You don't have to do it every time. Magnetic calibration is required in the following cases:

  • When using for the first time with the magnetic correction on setting

  • When updating Uni-motion

  • When replacing the battery (not required if the same battery is inserted in the same orientation)

  • If you haven't used it for a long time

  • When the sensor does not follow the movement of the body properly and behaves unnaturally

The direction of the motion will deviate from reality.

  • When the battery is low

If the battery level of the sensor is low, the operation of the sensor may become unstable. Use new batteries, or charge the batteries if they are rechargeable.

  • Corruption of magnetic calibration data

Calibration data may be corrupted due to factors such as bringing a strong magnet close to the sensor. If the operation is strange, please perform figure 8 calibration for about 1 minute. Figure 8 calibration can be performed even while using Uni-studio. Please calibrate in the air where there are no other products around as much as possible.

 

​Q. What creates magnetism?

・Electric appliances containing magnets and motors

 large speaker contains a magnet and is recommended to be used at least 1 meter away. Also, if the sensor on the foot is misaligned,Check for power strips with magnets.Home appliances (vacuum cleaners, fans, refrigerators, etc.)has also been reported to affect. Please move the magnet to a position where it will not be affected.

·smartphone

Do you have a smartphone in your pocket? Magnets may be used in smartphones and cases.

・VR controller

 Some VR controllers have magnets in their triggers. You can prevent drift by keeping the controller as close to the sensor as possible. (Normally, it doesn't occur unless you get very close to it.)

・Steel furniture

 A steel chair may have strange motions when seated. If the frame for a PC desk is made of steel, the motion may become strange when approaching. You can get a better motion by using it in the center of the room as much as possible without iron products or magnet products around.

・Reinforced concrete structures such as buildings

If the place to be used is directly above the steel frame or there is a steel frame in the wall, it may not be possible to obtain the correct motion.(Especially the foot sensor). We apologize for the inconvenience, but please move your location or Please consider using the Magnetic correction off or hybrid mode.

The sensor behaves strangely on the Uni-motion checker even though I've done the figure 8 calibration.

  • Make sure there are no magnetic products nearby when calibrating the sensor. Also, if you calibrate on a steel-framed desk, the calibration will not be accurate.

  • If the sensors are calibrated in stacked state, the calibration will fail due to magnetic interference between the sensors.

  • After completing the calibration, be sure toTurn off the switch and save within 3 minutes after turning on the power.

  • It may be improved by performing figure 8 calibration for about 1 minute.

  • ​It may be improved by clearing the calibration information in the Uni-motion setting manager.

Abnormal leg position when sitting on a chair or bed

​The following method is valid.

  • Use hybrid mode before sitting in a chair

  • switch to wooden chairs

When using VRChat, the position of the displayed white circle is strange.

  • When the white ball does not come to the waist, right foot, left foot position

  • VRChat only supports 3-point tracking (as of December 2021), and if 6-point tracking information is sent, 3 tracking information will be ignored. It can be improved by opening the settings from the gear mark at the bottom right of Uni-studio, removing "Use 6-point tracking" and restarting VRChat.

  • If the position of the white ball is too high or too low

  • ​ Depending on the avatar, the white ball may not be in the appropriate position (ankle). Change User Real Height of VRC settings and adjust so that the white ball is at your ankle.

Waist movement is not properly reflected in VRChat.

  • ​must use full tracking-compatible avatar.

  • It is reported that VRoid avatars must be uploaded with SDK2 (as of December 2021)

  • By opening the settings from the gear mark at the bottom right of Uni-studio and unchecking "Use Chest rotation as a reference for waist trackers", the waist tracker information will be sent instead of the chest tracker. The movement of the waist will be reflected well. Please change the settings according to your avatar and the motion you want to take.

Even if the leg is actually put forward, the leg is straight out to the side / 90 degrees out of alignment

・When using the HTC Vive series

SteamVR requires the play area to be set horizontally with respect to the front. Please double check that the play area settings are correct.

 

・When using the Oculus Quest series

Try setting the guardian again while changing its orientation and shape.

If you have installed OpenVR Space Calibrator, it is recommended to turn off the function when using Uni-motion.

​ We may address this issue in software in the future.

If it doesn't work, please contact support.

SteamVR crashes frequently.

 SteamVR must be pre-launched before launching Uni-studio.Also, it may become unstable depending on the VR headset you are using and the installation status of the software.

The position of the tracker is strange on SteamVR.

・When using the HTC Vive series

Please check once again that your height, floor height, and play area settings are appropriate.

 

・When using the Oculus Quest series

Please check once again whether the guardian setting and the floor height setting are appropriate.

If you have installed OpenVR Space Calibrator, it is recommended to turn off the function when using Uni-motion.

Uni-station cannot be recognized/connected by Uni-studio.

1. You cannot connect to the Uni-station when you are connecting to the Uni-station in the Settings Manager. Be sure to exit the Settings Manager before connecting. Also, if Uni-studio/Settings Manager is not terminated normally, you may not be able to connect again. Please try restarting your PC.

​2. If the 3D printer software is running, you may not be able to connect. You can connect by exiting the software.

3. The USB driver may not be installed properly. Please download the USB driver and install it. Also, the appropriate COM port may not be selected. Please try to connect by changing to another COM port from the COM port selection on the upper right. If the Uni-station is not recognized even after performing the above, it may be malfunctioning due to heat generated by the Uni-station. Unplug the USB cable, leave it for about a day, and then try to reconnect it.

When the Uni-sensor is powered off, the LED lights up slightly (product version)

It is so according to the product specifications. Even in that state, the battery will last for half a year to a year or more, so there is no problem.

Certain Uni-sensors are not recognized in Uni-studio.

Uni-sensor cannot be recognized when the battery level is low or when the pairing information of Uni-sensor is lost. If the pairing information of the Uni-sensor is lost for some reason, it will be improved by performing pairing again using the setting manager. Also, if it does not improve even after doing these, there is a possibility of Uni-sensor failure, so Please contact us from support.

Uni-sensor's frame rate (FPS) becomes unstable or drops.

1. If there are many devices using Wifi, or if you are using a microwave oven, the signal may become unstable. Use the settings manager to change the channel, orRaise the signal strength to about 10 dbmThis will stabilize the frame rate.

2. FPS may drop depending on the USB port you use Uni-station. When using a USB hub, when using a specific USB 3.0 port, or when connecting too many USB devices, the FPS may drop. If the above symptoms are confirmed, please consider using another USB port.

The chest belt feels too tight to attach.

The chest belt works fine even if it is attached above the collarbone. Please consider changing the mounting method.

Uni-studio gives an error "HMD could not be recognized. Please check the connection before starting."

The Uni-studio configuration file may be corrupted. It may be solved by reinstalling the driver in the settings within Uni-studio. If not resolved, Please contact support

After installing the new firmware (v1.1 or higher), the movement of the sensor is strange. The orientation of the sensors is not aligned. (pre-release version)

Please check the following points.

・Has the data been saved within 3 minutes after turning on the power of the sensor?

・Are you calibrating in an empty place (Are you not using a steel frame desk, etc.)?

Have you tried calibrating one by one?

・Did you try figure 8 for about 1 minute about the sensors that do not align?

Have you tried clearing the sensor calibration?

The sensor number changes every time I use it. (pre-release version)

I'm sorry. It has been reported that the Uni-station's pairing information fails to be saved at factory shipment. We apologize for the inconvenience, but the tracker role will be fixed by performing pairing again using the latest version of the setting manager.

Uni-sensor does not work properly even after recalibration.

​Recheck the settings by following the steps below.

Correct calibration information

From the "Uni-motion setting manager", please perform "delete calibration information" only for the corresponding sensor.

*Please make sure that you are in config mode (LED flashes quickly) when deleting calibration information.

* Uni-motion setting manager: Please download from this page.

* Regarding the flashing of the indicator LED,Check the "Indicator LED" on the sensor.

If the above does not fix it, restore the settings to factory defaults.

From the "Uni-motion setting manager", please perform "Reset to factory default" only for the corresponding sensor.

*Make sure you are in config mode.

*Pairing work is required after resetting to factory default.

If the above does not fix it, restore the firmware

Please perform "Uni-sensor update" from "Firmware update" of Uni-motion setting manager.

At this time, please update only the target sensor and check "Force update".

*Make sure you are in config mode.

How far away can the Uni-sensor be used from the Uni-station?

As a guideline, it can be used up to about 1m when the radio field strength of the Uni-sensor is 0dBm, and about 10m when it is 5dBm (default setting).

I want to turn on Uni-motion magnetic correction.

Ui-motionの磁気補正をOFFにして使いたい。

When using with the magnetic correction set to ON, the following settings are recommended.

Also, when using the magnetic correction function, it is necessary to perform magnetic calibration. See Magnetic Calibration for details.

・Magnetic Correction: ON

・Fracture prevention: OFF

・Auto correct: OFF​

HMD cannot be connected/tracked.

HMDが接続できない・トラッキングできない。

Follow the steps below to redo the settings.

① Quit Uni-studio and SteamVR.

②Start SteamVR, then restart Uni-studio.

③ Open the setting menu from the gear icon at the bottom right of the screen.

④ Open "Mode" from the menu on the left side of the screen.

⑤ Select "None" for the tracking reference device and click "Update Device List".

⑥ Select "HMD" again as the tracking reference device and click "Update Device List".

⑦Check that the head and hands are being tracked on the top screen of Uni-station.

What do the sensor cube colors mean?

​ The color of the sensor cube means the following status.

Blue: magnetic correction off
Green: magnetic correction on
Red: Temporary correction off due to strong external magnetism
Gray: Sensor is offline
White: During magnetic calibration

Some Uni-sensors do not function properly after updating the Uni-sensor firmware.

If the Uni-sensor can enter config mode,

Please follow this procedure to initialize the firmware of the malfunctioning Uni-sensor.

 

If the Uni-sensor cannot be enter config mode, or if the malfunctioning cannot be fixed even after initializing the firmware,
